Hy-Tec Industries was engaged as the key aggregate supply partner for the reseal of two airports – Alice Springs and Ayers Rock.

Hy-Tec’s Alice Springs’ North Road Quarry has a reputation in the region for providing the highest quality aggregates whilst meeting very tight deadlines.  It is supported by two other Hy-Tec quarries in the Territory, ensuring the team always delivers on their promises.

For the Alice Springs Airport Runway 12/30 Remediation Design and Construction project, Hy-Tec supplied over 15,000 tonnes of product from its local quarry, including dust, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm,14mm and sealing aggregates. With a last-minute request for additional product, the team had to quickly adapt to create a modified 7mm aggregate to meet the project’s timelines.

The team’s strong quarrying knowledge, coupled with Hy-Tec’s technical capability, resulted in all products being delivered on schedule and the project completed one week early.

Ayers Rock Airport Reseal project also required the Hy-Tec team to work closely with the customer to make sure the 12,000 tonne of product, consisting of 7mm,10mm and 14 mm aggregates was available on site as required.

With limited stockpile areas at Ayers Rock Airport, and 460 kilometre distance from the quarry gate to the site, six quad trucks were required to successfully manage the transport logistics. This coupled with the adoptative nature of Hy-Tec’s quarry team to manufacture additional products with limited notice period, helped make Alice Springs Airport reseal another successful project for Adbri and the community.

Alice Springs’ North Road Quarry has a reputation in the region for providing the highest quality aggregates whilst meeting very tight deadlines.  It is supported by other Hy-Tec quarries in the Northern Territory, ensuring the team always delivers on their promises.

For the Asia Pacific Aircraft Storage (APAS) expansion project, Hy-Tec is supplying over 30,000 tonnes of subbase material from the local quarry north of the Alice Springs township. With the current COVID-19 pandemic halting air travel, APAS had to fast-track their expansion plans to accommodate an influx of airlines looking for temporary aircraft storage. The Hy-Tec team adapted swiftly and was able to commence supply in line with the shortened notice period.

The team’s strong quarrying knowledge, coupled with Hy-Tec’s technical capability, and ability to navigate the logistical requirements resulted in the material being delivered in time and up to speed with the placing team on site.

Hy-Tec will also be supplying aggregate for asphalt production when the expansion project nears its conclusion.

Northern Cement and Hy-Tec Industries – both respected brands of Adbri – were a key material supply partner to the New Air Combat Capability (NACC) project.

The New Air Combat Capability project involved the construction of on-base maintenance hangers and working facilities, taxiway, apron, major drainage and services, pavements, accommodation, fuel storage, and car parking.
Drawing on the Group’s vertically integrated supply chain and extensive regional footprint, Northern Cement supplied cementitious material to Hy-Tec, who then supplied premixed concrete and quarry materials to Lendlease and its subcontractors for the project.

Over the life of the project, this included:
– 47,800m³ of premixed concrete supplied for structures and pavements using cement supplied from Northern Cement
– 250,000+ tonnes of quarry material

To ensure all delivery targets were met, the team worked closely with Lendlease to understand the project’s requirements and coordinate seamless deliveries in a way that would minimise any impacts from the seasonal weather conditions and the remote location. This saw Hy-Tec establish an additional mobile concrete plant in Katherine, to support its existing fixed plant, to provide security of supply for this important regional Defence project.
